Last Tuesday, Grade 6 students from all over the district arrived at Echuca College to experience the first day of their secondary education in preparation for 2013. They were welcomed into the school by Miss. Butler, Year 7 Co-ordinator and Mr. Eeles, College Principal, then spent the day getting to know their significant teachers and making new friendships. The students were able to familiarise themselves with the Year 7 Neighbourhood and the school surroundings.
Throughout the day, which mimicked a typical day of secondary school, the students were exposed to subjects such as Maths, English, Art and Physical Education. Lunchtime followed their tabloid sports and was a real highlight of the day. Despite the heat, they indulged in sausages, hamburgers, icy poles and cordial whilst being entertained by the Echuca College Year 7 Big Band, along with enjoying the company and encouragement of their Peer Support Student Leaders (from Years 10 and 11) who they will be mentored by in 2013.
After experiencing their extension studies units-: Drama, Music, Technology, Fitness and Dance, the eager grade 6 students offered some feedback on the day, which clearly showed they had an enjoyable and rewarding Orientation Day at Echuca College. We look forward to working with this new group in 2013!
