On Tuesday students from the Year 12 Physics class travelled down to Australian Synchrotron located next Monash University in Melbourne. They completed a tour of the facilities and were very fortunate to speak to Dr Megan J. Wallace. Her team completed groundbreaking research using imagining techniques available to rewrite the medical books in lung development for premature babies. Students also completed experiments in the interactions of light and matter including the Photoelectric effect, single and double-slit diffraction and inference as well as examining the emission spectra of various elements. Data from these experiments were collected and will be examined later in the week in their physics classes to enhance there understanding of concepts covered in unit 4.
