Congratulations to Josh Berg, Tyler Cox, Madison Elliot, Corey Pearce, Kyle Saunders and Jessie Tall who have been chosen to attend the School for Leadership at Gnurad- Gundidj in term 1 next year. The School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students’ home regions.
The Gnurad- Gundidj (noo-rad goondidge) Campus is located at the base of Mt Noorat, in Glenormiston North. The campus is situated amongst the volcanic plains, rivers and lakes of the western district and is close to the marine environments of the Shipwreck coast. While attending the school the students will live and work with up to 45 of their peers and will be responsible for controlling the nature of their own living space and place of learning.
The students are looking forward to the new experiences on offer such as surfing, overnight hikes and going without technology for 8 weeks. Parent and family contact is limited to emails and one visit during the term. A significant part of the program is the Community Learning Project. Past students have assisted families to provide Christmas presents for their children, produced a transition video for incoming year 7 students and have worked with the elderly in local Nursing homes. We look forward to the project that Josh, Tyler, Madison, Corey, Kyle and Jessie will present to the College on their return in Term 2 and wish them well on their big adventure.
