Our wonderful Indonesian teacher Bu Peters shares her skills with the students of Gunbower Primary. The two schools coordinate a time and link up using the PolyCom technology. The video conferencing facilities overcome the tyranny of distance and enables Gunbower to have an Indonesian teacher in their classroom once a week. Bu Peters emails work to the school before each session so when they link up the students are prepared and ready to learn. The success of the program is evident from the engagement of the students and the eagerness with which they greet Bu Peters.
Kesempatan ini penting untuk muridnya dan guru juga. Kalau bisa kerja sama, ada lebih banyak penyadaran bahasa Indonesia antara sekolah SD dan SMA. Pengalaman ini tentu saja mempermanfaatkan teknologi yang dibolehkan murid dari dua atau tiga sekolah belajar mata pelajaraan yang mungin tidak dalam kurikulum sekolahnya karena jumlah kelas yang kecil, tida ada guru atau alasan lain. Pengalam ini tentu saja menyenangkan untuk saya sebagai guru.
The translation; This opportunity is important for students and teachers alike. If we can work together, there will be much more awareness of Indonesian between primary and secondary schools. This experience certainly makes use of technology which allows students from two or three schools to study subjects which might not be in their school curriculum due to low numbers, teacher shortages or other reasons. This is experience definitely enjoyable for me as a teacher.
