The cows create careers program is run by dairy australia and schools all over Victoria and NSW participate.
Students borrow two calves from a local farmer to raise for three weeks. They are responsible for preparing the pen, housing and feeding equipment, feeding the calves, maintaining hygiene, and checking the weight and health of the calves.
To enter the competition, students work in groups of 4 or 5, to complete research and prepare a working model of an aspect of dairy farming. They also prepare a scientific report on the health and wellbeing of the calves.
Echuca College has an excellent record of being regional winners for this competition and hope to be in the top placings this year.
