Echuca College again featured very strongly at the 2017 Australia Day Awards. Taylah Cochrane received the Echuca District 2017 Young Citizen of the Year Award. Taylah was a 2016 Beacon Leader and regularly worked with the Campaspe Shire Council to represent the needs of youth in the Shire. Taylah has been selected in a number of representative netball teams and is a role model for younger students. Taylah is an excellent ambassador for Echuca College and we are very proud of her achievements.
Ebony Pollock was awarded the Murray River Council Young Sportsperson of the Year. Ebony has had an amazing year racing in the outrigger canoes. Ebony has travelled across Australia with her paddling and has won many races at a variety of levels.
Echuca College is a strong supporter of the Echuca Moama Beacon Foundation and was very proud to contribute to the success of the Echuca Moama Beacon Foundation’s “Real Futures” program being named as Campaspe’s 2017 Community Event of the Year.
Real Futures is a career education program aimed at 14-17 year olds (years 9 and 10) with the aim of building them a brighter future. The program has been available to over 6,000 students since its inception in 2001, with an enviable record of over 99% of students choosing to stay engaged in the education system or go on to employment, or apprenticeships/traineeships. The Real Futures program includes a careers expo where 350-400 students have the opportunity to attend selected workshops run by local business people and community organisations. Students also participate in mock interviews and receive feedback on their prepared resumes, application letter and interview techniques.
